How to connect to a diverse audience?

As society has become more diverse, so has the potential audience for news media. To find and engage new readers, listeners and viewers, editors and journalists must consider different perspectives and learn to make new connections.

How do you make sure you are not missing the story if topics and characters are outside your own scope? Of course, by making room in your editorial teams for colleagues from different backgrounds. But also, by building trust in your brand, through informed topic selection, authentic presentation, and language that speaks to the multitude of readers and listeners you want to serve.

Elonka Soros, is a diversity specialist and media expert (ex-BBC N&CA). In this practical, inspiring, and thought-provoking session, she will show how editors can do much more to appeal to new audiences.
